Message from the Organizer

With the success of the inaugural TEDxNJIT event in November of 2011, themed entrepreneurship and innovation, we are eager to organize another event for the Newark community. We wanted to enhance the audience experience based on positive and constructive feedback from the first event so we thought of a theme that appeals to a wider audience as well as moving the event to the evening to accommodate those with work and classes. The theme of the second event will be Sustainability, with aims of educating and motivating the audience on how companies and businesses, especially in the Newark area, are making changes to become more environmentally conscious in their business decisions. We hope you enjoy it and look forward to continued feedback.

- Kevin Ly on behalf of the TEDxNJIT team

TEDxNJIT Mission

TEDxNJIT's mission is to create an environment  that will spark new ideas, motivate students and other individuals to follow through on their ideas, as well as encourage them to participate more actively in making a change in their communities.

TEDxNJIT follows other prestigious TEDx university events such as those at Harvard and Princeton. TEDxNJIT not only targets its own population, but those of the schools surrounding it, Rutgers, Essex County College and UMDNJ, as well as the entire Newark community.

Kevin Ly
Event Organizer  - Contact

Ly is a second year biology major at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the Albert Dorman Honors College and the College of Science and Liberal Arts. He has been watching TED videos since early in high school but was only initially introuduced to TEDx in his first year of college at NJIT.

Ly has founded and been actively organizing TEDx events on the NJIT campus since the summer of 2011. Due to his interests in innovation and entrepreneurship, the inaugural TEDxNJIT event was themed Invention to Venture. After comments and feedback, he has made changes to the event to help it grow into an increasingly popular program. Currently, he is working on TEDxNJIT Sustainability, an event he hopes can enlighten the urban community on the growing sustainability movement. He hopes it to be a topic of interest to everyone, especially people living in an urban environment such as Newark.

He has been involved with all aspects of planning, development and marketing of these events. SInce the first event, he has formed a team with a growing board of faculty advisors and a growing team of student volunteers.
